Apart from being a professional teacher with a passion for teaching English, Dave Watt is a keen mountaineer and birder. He lives in Cape Town, but he has traveled in Africa, in the US and Holland, lived and studied for a year in the UK, worked in Singapore for a year and taught English in Japan for four years. His teaching experience includes adults and young people, and teaching English both as a home language and as a foreign language. Not only does he find pleasure in teaching but he regards himself as a life-long learner.

Ich als Lehrkraft

I have specialised in English teaching at top high schools. Learning English is fascinating and fun for people of all ages. I have taught English to adults and middle school students in Tokyo; in Cape Town I have taught middle and high school students up to university entrance level. I am able to help learners with individual problems and I know how to encourage and coach them, as I have 30 years experience doing this. I have a wide knowledge of the world, having travelled in the USA, UK and Asia. I regard it as a great privilege to share my love for language and to encourage others in their learning.

Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil

My lessons are not one-size-fits-all. With over 20 years experience, I adjust my teaching style and teaching material to fit the needs of the individual student. Sometimes explanation is necessary, but I use a variety of things such as games, notes, playing roles, repetition and practice , with practical advice on how to expand your English opportunities. I am also open to helping a student with any English textbook that they are already using. Basically, I regard life-long learning as fun and very rewarding.

Dave is super nice, I loved to talk with him. I booked a lesson to know him because I need to improve my grammar and my speech and even in the first lesson he was able to check my mistakes, listened to all my doubts and helped me to plan how we can improve my English in the other lessons. I am excited to start =)
