Mistakes on this website.
Did you noticed some huge mistakes on Italki?
Example no 1 - Italki still didn't recognized South Sudan. South Sudan is the youngest independent country of the world. It's independent from 2011.
Example no 2 - Italki didn't noticed that Lingala Language exists. Lingala is one of the most spoken languages in Africa. According to Wikipedia in 2017 it was about 15 million native speakers of that language and about 25 millon L2 speakers of it.

You are referring to the cognitive bias of the western influenced global culture, where Sub Saharan Africa barely exists. Who cares about the details? I can only imagine that I could easily have been born there and the world would have treated me the same way

Well, have you contacted italki about this? I think it's no problem adding a country. With languages I think they go after demand. There are more than 6000 languages in the world but realistically only a handful is studied here by a wieder group of users. There are not many posts in other languages apart from English. There's a bit of German, Arabic, French, Spanish, Chinese and Russian here but that's about it. But if people are demanding that a language is added, italki can do so. I once rallied for Odia to be added. It's one of the six classic languages of India and spoken by around 40 million people. Before Odia got added, I posted a notebook entry in Odia and a discussion about Odia under "Other". So, Odia got added. But then nothing happened. Nobody is using the opportunity to post something in or about Odia. But if you're actively studying Lingala and know some native Lingala speakers, it might be a good idea that you write separate messages to italki. Then they'll see a demand and might add it.

For those interested in South Sudan, it's worth checking out Emmanuel Jal, a musician from South Sudan. Here's a Ted talk by him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF_dHdNOgSA;
