What is the difference in usage between "wash off"and"wash out"?

If dirt is on you, you wash it off. If dirt is in you, you wash it out.

wash out means to remove by washing or to cause to fade by laundering and other meanings wash off means to remove by using water and soap or other liquid used for washing so they can be used interchangeablly to mean washing by using water

wash outs are so out of it they can only wash off cars for a living :P
