In this trial lesson we will introduce ourselves to  each other and draw up your language profile: what is your CEFR level, what are your language learning goals? Which skill is the most important for you: speaking, writing?  After that, I will  explain how I work, what materials and methods I will use in the lessons,  and what tasks will be set for your homework.

Lesson materials: reading texts, listening to podcasts, assignments to practise the spoken language, using the correct grammar, vocabulary and idioms. Lessons are tailored to the student's language needs and wishes. It is also possible to bring your own materials into the lesson. Assignments are sent to the student in advance, before the lesson.

Dutch for (upper) intermediate learners

Ben je uitgenodigd voor een sollicitatiegesprek? Dan is het belangrijk om jezelf zo goed mogelijk te presenteren, en voorbereid te zijn op het beantwoorden van vragen. Dat trainen we heel gericht in deze les.  
Heb je de felbegeerde baan gekregen? Dan heb je vast behoefte om de taal te oefenen die specifiek is voor jouw werk. Hoe sta je bijvoorbeeld klanten te woord als je in de horeca werkt? Of als je als zorgmedewerker bij ouderen thuis gaat werken? Elk beroep heeft specifiek vakjargon, en een gebrek aan kennis hiervan kan je onzeker maken en tot misverstanden leiden. We beginnen in deze les met vast te stellen wat voor jou belangrijk is, en welk algemeen taalniveau al bereikt is. Daarna gaan we aan de slag met woordenschat, grammatica en vakspecifiek taalgebruik.

Is your general knowledge of English sufficient, but are you sometimes at a loss for the right words e.g. for a presentation at school, for writing a letter, or for talking to clients during a summer job, e.g. in tourism? In this lesson you will learn to overcome hurdles, so that you can feel more confident in your job or study.

I was a senior researcher at Radboud University. I conducted research in five European countries and obtained a doctorate.

I have worked as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language across a broad range of educational levels, which has resulted in a multifaceted  expertise and understanding of difficulties that language students experience. Moreover, I have carried out doctoral research into EFL - learning in various European quarters, and became familiar with diverse EFL practices and attitudes towards foreign language learning.
