TRIAL LESSONS FOR BOTH ENGLISH & DUTCH

Suitable for complete beginners to advanced learners! A great start to see what you already know and what you still want to learn.

In this lesson, we will get to know each other and outline your learning goals and needs. I will explain to you how I teach and based off our conversation, provide feedback on areas that you can improve in. If you are interested in taking general English lessons or Dutch pronunciation lessons with me, I will prepare a short teaching moment (>10 min) to demonstrate my teaching style.

Before the trial lesson begins, please provide me with your language level and learning goals so I can create a trial suitable to your needs and interests!

Lessons for students aged 6 and upwards. I can help your child improve their English skills using games, pictures, music, and fun and creative activities! We will work on improving vocabulary by learning about set topics, like for example the weather, hobbies and sports, and going on a holiday. Our main focus will be on speaking English confidently and expanding vocabulary, while at the same time working on reading, writing, listening and grammar skills. As an ESL teacher to young students, I work with the immersion method. First, the target language will be presented using lots of context and examples, modelling the correct use of language. We only converse in English, so there will be lots of acting out, use of pictures and use of simple, comprehensive language. This way, your child will be familiar with daily life-use of the English language and will feel confident to speak in English. After becoming familiar with the use of the new language, we will look more deeply at grammar structures, spelling and language rules. 

Your child will learn the same things I teach to my adult students, but in a simplified and more playful way. For example, we will learn about different foods and supermarket vocabulary by going on a digital shopping trip, looking at different pictures of produce and talking about what you could make with these.

Examples of topics: back to school, happy holidays, wonderful weather, food and drinks, amazing animals, my feelings, all sorts of people, when I grow up...

For children under 9 years old, I would recommend a 30 minute lesson. If you want your young child (7 years or younger) to follow a lesson, a parent should also be present nearby. Homework can be provided as additional material, but is not compulsory. If you have more than one child and wish to have them join a lesson at the same time, just send me a message as this is also an option!

English for Kids and Teens

During this lesson, we practice daily conversational skills. Based off your personal interests, I will provide topics we can discuss together. While we're talking, I will take notes and provide feedback to help you speak English more fluently. I will provide additional materials to help you sound more fluently and support areas you may find difficult. For example, if you struggle with using the correct tenses, I can help you work on your grammar skills related to the tenses. To help you improve your vocabulary and natural speech, we can also play games, have discussions related to your own hobbies and interests and look at parts of English speech such as idioms, interjections and pronunciation. I can also provide tips and supporting materials for you to continue working on your fluency outside of lessons.

English Conversational Practice: Intermediate/Advanced (B1-C2)

This lesson is for students starting to learn English. During the lessons, we will work on grammar, listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. I design personal lessons based off of your interests and English learning goals and combine these with a set curriculum. This way, you will learn the basics of the English language while learning about topics that are interesting and motivating to you!

The curriculum will take you from a basic level (A0) to a high basic level (A2). Depending on your availibility, this can be done in less than 6 months! At the end of each block, we will recap your knowledge and see what still needs to be worked on. Homework can be provided as additional material if you wish. I look forward to seeing you in class!

This lesson is for students already familiar with the English language. During the lessons, we will work on grammar, listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. I design personal lessons based off of your interests and English learning goals and combine these with a set curriculum. This way, you will learn English through topics that are interesting and motivating to you!

The curriculum will take you from a pre-intermediate level (B1) to an intermediate level (B2). At the end of each block, we will recap your knowledge and see what still needs to be worked on. Homework can be provided as additional material if you wish. I look forward to seeing you in class!

This lesson is for students trying to move from intermediate to advanced English. 
The curriculum will take you from intermediate to advanced level (B2 - C1). Depending on your availibility, this can be done in less than 6 months! At the end of each block, we will recap your knowledge and see what still needs to be worked on. If you have already taken my other lessons for beginners and pre-intermediate learners, you will notice that these lessons aim to review and perfect your previously learned knowledge. If you simply want to review your English skills, these lessons are also perfect to figure out what you need to do to move on to an advanced C1 level. To extend your vocabulary even more, I will provide podcasts, videos and readings to further support your learning. I look forward to seeing you in class!

General English Lessons: Intermediate (B2-C1)

Tijdens deze les oefenen we dagelijkse spreekvaardigheden. Ik zal onderwerpen inbrengen gebaseerd op je persoonlijke interesses en gerelateerd aan jouw leerdoelen. Terwijl we in gesprek zijn, neem ik notities en voorzie ik je van feedback om je Nederlands vloeiender te laten klinken. Ik kan je ook van extra materiaal voorzien dat je kan helpen bij onderwerpen die je lastig vindt: als je bijvoorbeeld moeite hebt met het gebruiken van de juiste voornaamwoorden, kan ik je hier artikelen of opdrachten voor sturen waar je thuis zelf aan kan werken. Ook zullen we aan het begin van de lessen een korte herhaling doen van een (grammaticaal) onderwerp zoals dit, waar je nog in kan verbeteren.
Om je vocabulaire te laten groeien en je natuurlijke spraak te verbeteren, kunnen we ook spelletjes spelen, discussies voeren gerelateerd aan jouw interesses en kijken naar delen van spraak zoals spreekwoorden, gezegden en tussenwerpsels.
Voor deze lessen is het belangrijk dat je al wat ervaring hebt met de Nederlandse taal. Vandaar raad ik deze lessen aan vanaf een B1 niveau.

Conversaties oefenen: Nederlands (B1-C2)

In deze lessen oefenen we met de klankuitspraak. Je leert hoe je door te kijken naar de spelling van een woord, kan weten hoe het woord uitgesproken moet worden. We focussen hierbij op klinkerklanken, lettergrepen en klemtoon. Hierdoor zal je uitspraak vloeiender en natuurlijker klinken! Als je moeite hebt met bepaalde klanken, kunnen we hier ook specifiek mee oefenen. Als je niet goed weet waar je moet beginnen, kan je ook eerst een proefles boeken. Dan kijken we samen op welke gebieden je nog kan groeien!

Uitspraak oefenen: Nederlands (Beginners)

Deze lessen zijn bedoeld voor leerlingen die het Inburgeringsexamen (A2) of Staatsexamen I (B1) of II (B2) gaan doen en extra ondersteuning willen. Tijdens deze lessen kunnen we samen werken aan je eigen ingebrachte leermateriaal, of oefenen met voorbeeldexamens en opdrachten die ik meeneem. Ik geef gericht feedback op de gebieden die je lastig vindt en kan je goed helpen je spreekvaardigheid te verbeteren. Ook kan ik je helpen leren voor de toets Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij (KNM) en je voorzien van extra leermateriaal en oefentoetsen op alle gebieden. 

Deze lessen kunnen ook gedaan worden als je je nog niet hebt aangemeld voor je examen. Als je al aangemeld bent voor je examen, let dan op dat de lessen voor extra ondersteuning zijn en niet ter volledige vervanging van bijvoorbeeld een cursus bij een taalschool.

Ondersteuning bij Inburgering/Staatsexamen: Nederlands

4-year Bachelor completed for International Primary School Teaching. Included practical teaching abroad yearly and completed minors in Inclusive Education and Arts & Culture.

150 hour program, including 16 hours of practical teaching and in-class observations. Completed with an excellent pass.

Additional Bachelor to obtain my Dutch teaching license. Focus on Dutch language and country-specific subjects in history and geography. Required a year of practical teaching.

Big focus on early childhood education, English as a second language and democratic citizenship. I also obtained minors in Inclusive Education and Arts & Culture. Included 3 periods of practical teaching abroad (3 months or more).

Waldorf School. I mainly taught Year 6 & Year 2. I also designed curricula for English and IT, worked as a substitute teacher and classroom assistant.
