In this class, we will have a conversation about any topic that you choose. It could be a hobby you enjoy, a recent news story, or even your job!

If you prefer, I can choose a topic for us.
 
As we talk, in the first part of the class I will make notes about your pronunciation, use of vocabulary and grammar, and any examples of 'non-native English'.
 
After this, we will take a look at how we can improve your English conversation skills: What mistakes did you make, and which could cause problems? Which mistakes did you make more than once? What useful words or expressions might be helpful next time you talk about this topic?
 
We will then spend the final part of the class practicing the new and/or corrected words and phrases.

"STUDENT LEARNS ENGLISH BY STUDYING NEWS" - Latest Story

Practise talking about current events around the globe, learn to understand headlines, and improve your ability to discuss new topics.

In this class we will look at three current news stories, and:

1) Try to understand the story from just the headline.
2) Discuss the story, and practice giving your opinion in English.
3) Look at any English mistakes and correct them, then try again.

News stories can be an excellent way to study English; they often include past, present, and future; they deal with a wide range of topics; and they are very common in 'small talk' situations, so you should get some chance to practise talking about news in real life!

In this class we will:
1) Practise the IELTS Speaking paper under realistic conditions.
2) Look at and correct any mistakes or problems you have.
3) Learn simple strategies for extending your answers and improving your score.
4) Practice again with what we have learned!


Many students are nervous about the IELTS speaking paper, but they don't have to be; it can seem scary at first but the questions follow similar patterns and there are many useful phrases and expressions we can learn to help.
We can look at techniques for giving better answers in all three parts of the speaking test, including the dreaded part 2 monologue!

Help is here! In this class we will first have a controlled conversation to identify the areas of your pronunciation that need improvement, look at some exercises to ensure that you are forming the correct sounds, then practice using your 'new' pronunciation to get it perfect!
