The Gatsby! A classic Capetonian delicacy and the food of the people. Invented in the mid 70s by a guy named Rashaad. He had some guys doing some work on his property and he had the dilemma of feeding them. Originally consisting of polony, chips, atchar (another South African delicacy in the form of a spicy preserve) and of course the gigantic roll. Upon eating this sandwich type thing, one of the recipients exclaimed: "wow boss, this is a Gatsby smash" as The Great Gatsby was popular at the time and had found its way into popular terminology and culture at the time.
