It's pretty informal. I never use it because I do not issue updates. It would more be said by a blogger, influencer, some kind of company, etc.

Great question! "Keep your eyes peeled" tells someone to stay alert or watchful of something. We use it fairly often, and it's used for informal contexts instead of formal ones.
