How to give and receive feedback effectively in English. We all know that feedback is really important in the workplace. It helps us to identify our strengths and weaknesses, and to learn from our mistakes. However, this could also be challenging, for example: 🙁 You may be hesitant to give feedback for fear of offending or being misunderstood. 🙁 You may also have difficulty understanding feedback that is given to you, especially if it is not clear or concise. 🙁 You may doubt when is the appropriate time to offer your feedback. So, how can you overcome these challenges? Here are some practical tips: GIVING FEEDBACK: >Be constructive and offer suggestions for improvement. >Be specific and focus on the behaviour, not the person. >Be respectful and avoid using personal attacks. >Give feedback in a timely manner. RECEIVING FEEDBACK: >Be thankful for the feedback, even if it is negative. >Ask clarifying questions if you don't understand something. >Be open to feedback and listen carefully to what is being said. >Consider the feedback carefully and use it to improve your performance. EXAMPLE: "Hi [name], I noticed that you were having some trouble with the presentation today. Specifically, you seemed to be struggling to explain the technical concepts in a way that the non-technical audience could understand. I would suggest that you try to simplify your language and use more analogies and examples in the future." "Thank you for your feedback, [name]. I appreciate you taking the time to help me improve. I can see how my language was too complex in some places. I will try to simplify my language and use more analogies and examples in the future." 👉 Remember that feedback is a two-way street.
