What some other punctuation I can use instead of "em dash"? ▪ I said I would help you, and I will—because, as far as I'm concerned, a promise made is a promise kept.

Instead of the em-dash you can use brackets (as I am doing here). If you use either brackets or dashes, be sure to make a complete set. Your example has only one dash followed by a comma.
