Search for 'English for Academic Purposes' or 'EAP'. It is the type of English used in advanced (college and university) communication.
Vocabulary. A large part of EAP is the words that professors, researchers, and scientists use. The general public use "information" and "data". Academics also use "evidence", "argument", "conclusion", "hypothesis", "synthesis", and more. These words are used by academics in all subjects: art history or engineering or medicine. Search for 'Academic Word List' or 'AWL'.
Structure. Academic communication uses complex structures: phrases, clauses, etc. You can learn these in any English course but EAP will really review them.
Writing. A general English course will teach you how to fill out an application or write a letter. EAP will teach you how to write an essay.
So, search for EAP and AWL. Change your video viewing to watching TED Talks and documentaries. Read articles in Wikipedia and academic journals. Start with an area that really interests you.
