Last year, I was in San Diego with some cousins and uncles. We had the evening free until 1 AM, and for some reason, we thought it would be a good idea to go into Tijuana for fun, since we all had our IDs on us. We arrived in Tijuana at around 6 PM and walked around before taking a taxi to the malecon. We stayed there until 8 PM, but we realized it was getting late, and it's not safe to be walking around Tijuana at night outside of the tourist zone. We barely realized that we couldn't just walk back into the US, as we only had our IDs and not our passports.
We tried to find a taxi to take us to the house of some of our relatives, but there were none, and we didn't have their numbers, so we had no choice but to walk around Tijuana at night to get to their house. Considering that six people are killed there on average, it wasn't a good idea, especially at night when it's dark. We were scared 99% of the time since we had to go through really sketchy neighborhoods, walk past some crazy people, and there were only five of us.
After around 30 minutes of walking around Tijuana at night, we finally made it to our relatives' house. We stayed there for the night, and the next day we called one of my other uncles to see if he could come and pick us up, but he was in LA, so we had to wait a while. Eventually, he made it there, and we were able to get back into the US. I can easily say that was the longest 30 minutes of my life.
