Do you consider yourself to be a competitive person? Yes. Of course. I have always been a competitive person by nature since I was a child, with my partners at school, with my sisters and now with my coworkers. I think that it is good thing because in this way you can have more motivation for effort you and get what you want in your life.

Thank you Teresa for starting these discussions that let's us practice our English while talking about different issues.

I must admit I am not competitive at all and sometimes I feel I am not made "for this world" (which is very competitive), I try to do my best and do things better but this is something about me, not comparing to others.

No, I don't. I of course am proud of myself when I do better than others (particularly if it's in the spirit of revenge), but generally I hate constantly looking to other people and comparing myself to them. I have social anxiety that affects my daily life, so I try to teach myself not to worry about how much better others are doing than I am (and vice versa--I don't want to impose the same insecurities I feel on others). I would rather learn how to properly get along with people. I'm sure that if I grew up knowing just how to make friends, a bit of competition here and there would be fun rather than divisive.

I don't consider myself to be a competitive person. I think competition can help motivate people, but at the same time it can be very stressful if it is too extreme. Competitive people actually make me anxious and I believe it can create an unhealthy work environment if everyone only wants to benefit themselves. This can be detrimental if, for instance, an individual wants to look better than another by making the other person look bad. I prefer being competitive with myself and try my best to improve myself. I prefer being collaborative with others and work with them towards a common goal.

First of all,  it is very hard to define "competitiveness" for me. It suggests there is no possibility to assess "competitiveness" without relevant measurement. I would have to say a person's advantage is in another way his disadvantage. For example, if you are very focusing on your work and seriously studying on your profession, in a way, you are not very easy to relax on some social cozy occasions. I have seen a couple of specialists who are very adept in their skills cannot have good relaxation on some of social occasions as more often than not, they are apt to concentrate on their specialty even that is a casual place to have fun. You might say you can balance both of them as many people think, but a bleak fact is the majority of the people are not invincible or not strong enough to defeat all hardships.

I am not so competitive as some of others in a way but I have faith that God must make me become a competent man in a sense.
