Deutschprüfung Goethe-Zertifikat B1 (How to study for the exam)

Hello people!

I know that there are a lot of people learning German and there are probably many of you preparing to take an exam right now. For me, I really want to help a friend to prepare for his German language exam (B1), but I am not sure how to be of any good help.

There are a lot of methods to study a language and I'm sure that we will need some time to find out what works best for us, so I wanted to start this discussion to ask you guys to share your study methods with me and everyone else, who needs some help!

How do you study for your exam? Are there any good source to study with and which are free to use?

Since I live in Germany ever since I was born and went to a German school, I still have some one or two German old textbooks. I am afraid that those texts might be too difficult for him to understand, but I will probably take one of those books with me the next I meet him! Then we'll see :)

Greetings!

Hi! I personally took the exam several months ago and prepared for it with a book called "Mit Erfolg zum Zertifikat Deutsch". Well, this actually consists of 2 books which are Übungsbuch and Kursbuch. The exercises are a little bit difficult. The exam itself wasn't that difficult. There is also a vocablist on the internet, published by Goethe Institut itself.

Furthermore -

I used my games console to play video games solely in German, read books by Max Frisch, Uhlmann, and more. I read daily articles on Die Zeit and basically immersed myself in the language. The resources are endless, but I would advise staying away from Memrise at B1 level, because there needs to be more depth to what is being said, than isolated sentences. This is why I believe reading is so important. Assess your friends language skills, and perhaps recommend some literature.

On the Goethe Institut website, there are past B1 exam papers, and there are answers there too. So they can perhaps do the exam, you can time them, and then mark it.

You can take a look at it here.

It's a great tool. Your friend will be able to do reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The listening materials are below:

I hope this will be enough for your friend to pass their B1 exam

Viel Glück!

Graham.
