How do you say "he/she didn't arrive until (time)" in Indonesian? And how do you say "arrived by (time)"?

I am curious how in Indonesian one says the following sentences:


"He didn't arrive until late/10 PM/etc."

"She arrived by noon/1 PM/etc."


I have basically already researched different variations that I thought made sense but they produce no results.  For example, "dia tidak tiba sampai"/"dia tidak sampai sebelum" for the first sentence.  Thank you.

Hi Adam,

I think it's basically fine if you say "Dia tidak tiba sampai... (this one is ok) / Dia tidak tiba sampai sebelum (this is a bit too complicated)...". But to simplify, I guess many of us commonly say " Dia belum tiba hingga jam 1 malam." All are grammatically correct though.

There is no verb or irreguler verb tense ini Bahasa. but you can try use this word as adverb of time :

- sedang, saat ini for Simple present tense.

He hitting me = dia sedang memukulku, dia memukulku saat ini.

- - Tadi. for past tense

He arrived at 10 pm = dia tadi tiba pukul 10 malam.

He arrived by noon = dia tiba tadi siang.


And there is no different for "dia" in bahasa

Indonesia doesn't have tenses. ".... Verbs are not inflected for person or number, and they are not marked for tense; tense is instead denoted by time adverbs (such as "yesterday") or by other tense indicators, such as sudah "already" and belum "not yet".  ..." (Wiki)

"He didn't arrive until 10 PM." (cmiiw:. he did arrive at 10PM) = I think instead of "Dia tidak sampai sampai, baru sampai jam 10 malam.", we normally say "Dia akhirnya baru tiba jam 10 malam." 

"dia tidak tiba sampai jam 10 malam" might mean "we are waiting for him and when we see it is 10 PM -->
(1) he might finally arrive at 10 PM, OR 
(2) even until 10 PM he still hasn't arrived", we cannot know unless there is further explanation; 

"dia tidak (akan) sampai sebelum jam 10 malam" normally means something like "he will not arrive before 10 PM, he will arrive after 10 PM".

"Dia tak juga sampai . . ."

*First Question : He didn't arrive until 10 PM

Answer : People usually say the sentence like Dia belum tiba sampai sekarang or Dia belum tiba hingga jam 10 malam

*Second Question : She arrived by noon

Answer : People commonly say it like this, Dia tiba pada siang hari or Dia tiba pada tengah hari
