My English hasn't improved as much as I'd like.

Hi everyone!

I would like to talk about English levels because I have been suffering from poor English for several years.I spent most of my time learning , forgetting ,getting started again and regretting about my time which i wasted on learning English without moving to another level. I have been facing a lot of problems while I am learning English which are using propositions specially with verbs correctly , understanding Phrasal verbs and their meanings and forming complicated sentences naturally without searching for sentences like my sentences in Google to make sure mine are correct...etc. All those problems consistently encounter me and I keep trying to solve them by reading and searching for solutions, but I am not satisfied with my situation when can I get ride of my problems and speak and write without thinking?.  Sometime I feel like giving up completely.

Don't give up, your level of English is quite good. Yes, you have made some mistakes in your writing here, but it's nothing that can't be fixed.

The best way to improve your language is to use English every day. That means listening, reading, writing, thinking and talking.

It sounds like you are pretty thorough with your studies. In my experience, it's fairly common to find language learners who have incredibly high standards, improve a ton although not to the goal they set, and then get frustrated. Your writing is very good, especially considering you speak Arabic, since it's a different alphabet and different sentence structures. Do you have a measurable goal that you want to meet (test scores, job using English, etc.)? Speaking like a native will take MANY years, but with a nice level (which you seem to have) you can talk to anyone, do most jobs, and so on. Giving up won't help you reach your goal, if your frustration is building just spend a month or a few months with TV shows or videos or books that you enjoy, in English. You'll keep most of your level and you can study hard again when you feel refreshed.

Hi, Sara

So far as I know as a Arabic native speaker to learn English is much more difficult than any other language since the origin of the two languages stand farther than any other languages. Therefore I would appreciate your courage in keeping work on the language learning and practicing . I do consider transient discouragement or stumble is inevitable whatever language a learner is  going to learn or even to master.

There are many ways to achieve proficient English but no matter what method you would prefer to adopt, you had better ensure the method you are adopting is by any means effective and workable for a long term and that is the upmost key point you have to hold firmly. If you have not found a good method of practicing and learning English, you may as well approaching it by constant practicing and pondering the best method. More often than not the learners can modify their learning frequently according to their degrees in English proficiency and it is expected that success is on the corner by persistent working and thinking.

You can as well find compatible language partners to share with your English learning that benefit either. By virtue of the merit of your language partners, you can more understand your progress in English learning and as usual your language partners would feed you  positive feedback to compensate your shortcoming. But please remember that learning a language is none other than a journey without destination that even some of the native speakers are often learning their primary language.

Good luck to your learning anyway
