You see 'to do' is to do a verb. It is the act of performing a deed, that is, performing a verb. Eg: painting means doing the act in which one paints something. Reading means doing the act which entails reading something.

Making is one of those verbs that you do. It entails creating something. Eg: Making a picture is to either sketch or paint a picture.

To make is to do something, but to do might not necessarily mean to make something. Eg: Making a picture is doing the act of sketching or painting, but doing some work like reading is not making something.

I hope this works but feel free to contact if there are any more doubts. Do not feel shy; everybody has difficulties learning a new language.
