Slang terms of endearment..
"shorty" - this term is very big in hip-hop culture. a guy uses it to refer to a girl that he likes, thinks is cute, etc. She doesn't have to actually be short to be called "shorty" an example of this is in the Usher song "OMG" when he sings "I fell in love with shorty when I seen her on the dance floor" (this sentence is not gramatically correct, btw. Another spelling for shorty is "shawty". i've also heard girls use it to refer to a guy she likes, but it's not as common this way.
"boo" - this term, also big in hip-hop culture, is used to refer to one's boyfriend or girlfriend. It is not a gender specific term. Example of usage: "I'm going out on a date with my boo tonight." Lately, however, the usage is spreading from being used only toward someone you're in a relationship with, to anyone whom you're refering to a bit more affectionately like a close friend. For example, when I talk to my best friend I'll say "Hey boo, what's up?"
"baby" - this term is used by all types of people to refer to one's boyfriend or girlfriend. example "Hey baby, do you want to get dinner tonight?" But it is also very commonly used by men who try to get the attention of some woman they don't know: "Hey baby, you're looking good today". WARNING: using baby on a stranger can be considered rude. In general, pick-up lines can be viewed as rude, annoying, and sometimes offensive ... but this doesn't stop some guys from using it ... i don't know why they insist. But, I digress ...
I'll think of more later...
