What are your favorite words in English?

What are some of your favorite words in English, and why do you like them? As a native speaker myself, I would be curious to know especially what English learners like.

As a lover of words and languages, I have so many favorites, but here are a few that I like, in no particular order. Some I like for the poetic sound, others I find funny or fun to say or enjoy the meaning.

- ephemeral

- crystalline

- shenanigans

- squish

- shimmering

- apparition

- constellation

- blip

- flourish

That's a great list, Kelly. I actually like "ephemera" better than "ephemeral." I like "shenanigans" partly because its such a pretty word for such an ugly thing.

How about "anonymous," "ululation," "memory?"

And of course, "tintinnabulation," as in

Hear the sledges with the bells—

                 Silver bells!

What a world of merriment their melody foretells!

        How they tinkle, tinkle, tinkle,

In the icy air of night!

        While the stars that oversprinkle

All the heavens, seem to twinkle

           With a crystalline delight;

         Keeping time, time, time,

In a sort of Runic rhyme,

To the tintinnabulation that so musically wells

From the bells, bells, bells, bells,

               Bells, bells, bells—

From the jingling and the tinkling of the bells.
