Egyptian Arabic Study Resources

I've been wanting to learn Arabic for a very long time now, and I just got access to my first two resources for learning the Egyptian dialect. (I have chosen to learn a dialect first because I would much rather learn to converse with people first as opposed to learning the standard way to read and write yet.)

This is what I now have:

- Rocket Arabic (Rocket Languages Audio Courses)

- "Kallimni 'Arabi Bishweesh" by Samia Louis

I was wondering if any of you guys knew of any other resources that might be useful for learning about grammar, vocabulary, culture, etc.

Thank you all in advance for any help!

This is not so much a resource for content, but it provides some great strategies, techniques, and approaches to naturally and semi-effortlessly pick up the language: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=illApgaLgGA

To recap though, the video is about a Spanish professor, who learns Egyptian Arabic through a sort of immersion-style approach. He hires a tutor to explain things simply with lots of visuals, and she also tells stories. Little-by-little, the professor "acquires" the spoken language and naturally understands what he's hearing. He does this without memorization or drills. Eventually, he goes to Egypt to get a full, around-the-clock immersion and finishes his "studies" in 12 months.

Mohamed Allam, I don't usually learn purely based off of audio because I'm an extremely visual learner, but take a look at the product regardless!

Mohammed Moaz, thanks for you're suggestion, although I've checked out ArabicPod101 in the past along with the other languages they offer and I wasn't a big fan of their teaching style. I'll look at it again to see if they've changed anything.

Ryan K., that seems very interesting! I'm sure there will be a lot of good information that I can get out of that video!

Justin, thanks for all of the book suggestions! Along with the Kallimni 'Arabi book I also got the Colloquial Persian book from Routledge. I'm really enjoying the book so far so I'm very curious about their "Colloquial Arabic of Egypt". And no, I didn't know that Samia Louis taught Arabic on iTalki! That's very cool!

Thank you all for you're help!

Another course that gives a great introduction to Egyptian Arabic is "kullu tamam!: An Introduction to Egyptian Colloquial Arabic" by Manfred Woidich. It can be easily purchased online.

I also like "Colloquial Arabic of Egypt" from Routledge. Make sure you get the latest edition and if the book + audio pack costs too much, just get the book because you can download the audio recordings from their website.

I haven't used this one but I have heard nice things about "Meyya Meyya". It's a two-book series for learning Egyptian dialect and it's specifically intended for self-learners. Check out their website. http://meyyameyya.com/

Did you know that the author of the "Kallimni 'Arabi" series also teaches on iTalki? https://www.italki.com/teacher/2016621?hl=en-us

*There is an Egyptian YouTuber that's been teaching Egyptian Arabic for a while now. His name is Ali Gamal. Check him out. https://www.youtube.com/user/MrAligamal1/videos

Good luck!
