Do you think a person's physiognomy(facial features) tells his personality?
Some say that the appearance of a person can tell his/her personality and even foretells the person's fortune in the future. Is it just a preconception or rational inference? What do you say?

No, I do not. As the saying goes, "you can't judge a book by its cover."

What I think is true is that your judgement of a person's character affects the way you perceive their face and general appearance. For example, if you dislike a politician, you are likely to perceive them as physically ugly.

I honestly don't believe that a persons face defines his personality or his fate. It can be partly true to some extent but a face is a superficial way to judge someone. I have met people who looks amiable but is exactly the opposite. On the contrary, I met some people who looks unapproachable but is actually a really cool person when you get to know them. In some cultures, they say that you will have a better future if you are good looking but I met good looking people who are broke or penniless. So, I don't really believe in this idea.

Well, we are instantly attracted or drawn to some people but I don’t think that you can really judge a person’s character by their facial features.

What would that say about people with facial disfigurements? https://youtu.be/PWD12X0FfvU

It‘s profiling and stereotyping to try to judge someone by their facial features. But villains don’t always look like bad people. I don’t like that movies offen depict bad people as ugly and good people as pretty. Look at this handsome serial killers Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, Paul John Knowles: https://www.scoopwhoop.com/inothernews/most-charming-serial-killers-ever/

Judging someone by their facial features reminds me of the „scientific racism“ of the Nazis.. They depicted Germans as blonde, beautiful and healthy (thus good), whereas they depicted Jews as dark-haired and ugly and therefore as bad.

@Kim

"For example, clear eyes and nice complexion tell that their health condition is good and can conduct their jobs nicely, as a result they will succeed in works in the future. We can recognize those nervous or even hysterical people by their appearance, too. I mean that."

I really don't see the connection between clear eyes, nice complexion and success at work. Yes, you can have guesses about someone else's health but being healthy doesn't mean that one is also intelligent and hard working. Healthy looking people are physically attractive and attractive people often can be successful in their careers because of their attractiveness. We're drawn to healthy and attractive people, because they seem to be desirable mating partners: https://www.psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/games-primates-play/201203/the-truth-about-why-beautiful-people-are-more-successful;. I don't like the word "hysterical" because of the way it was used in history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hysteria;. Also, even if someone has some kind of physical or mental disorder, they can still be very good at their jobs.

But of course, if people in Asia think that attractiveness leads to good jobs, it's understandable why plastic surgergy is so popular there.

"For example, if we have a bad facial impression, we can change it into a good impression through practice of smile brightly."

I think in Asia smiling has a different connotation. Google "telling women to smile". You might find the articles on Western websites surprising.

"After a certain age everyone is responsible for their face "
Yes, you can get some interesting information if you know how to read a face.
