Italki is not a dating site.
Let me shout this louder for people in the back. Italki is not a dating site! Members on the discussion board should be honest about what they are looking for. If you want a tutor or teacher or free language exchange. That's one thing. Or even casual friendship. That's what is allowed on Italki. Please don't ask members through private message for links to dating sites. Be truthful with people that you message. Don't mislead them and say you're just looking for a casual friend, then suddenly switch gears and ask for a link to dating sites. Strangers aren't on here to help someone find a partner/spouse.

Ludmila me and other women on Italki have raised this issue many times. I'm annoyed and concerned. Concerned because I want to warn new members on here. New members might not know this is and has been an issue.

Hello Alice,

Thank you for being an advocate.

Let's call this what it really is, it is harassment and it should be a violation of italki's policy of fair and respectful learning. We should bring this up as a formal complaint. Also, this is a big deal and should not be ignored. Your feelings are valid and should not be swept under the rug. I'm not sure if others know that the are legal violations and can be taken very seriously by police and judiciary branches of law.

I completely agree Alice! Also, as a tutor yourself, you’ve probably stumbled across students seeing it as a dating site as well. It’s always so awkward for me, sometimes I take it as a friendly gesture, then they cross the line and I really don't know what to do. And some of them can be so pursuing, it’s just impossible to tell them you’re not interested, no matter the reasons.
