Do you prefer strict teachers or kind?
Some students see language teachers as strict school teachers, some prefer to be friends with their teachers. What's your view?

@ Joe: I try to be kind and fun as well ( sometimes:-)).

In my opinion, I prefer a kind teacher to a strict teacher. This is because I can improve my skills in comfortable environment more than under the tense situation. Probably, I cannot stand that a teacher always find my mistakes. It is much better if they praise my improvements and tell me additional advice kindly.

It's less how the teacher speaks to me, and more how the teacher views me.

If a teacher views me with contempt / sees me as stupid but pretends to be nice, I'm not going to like that teacher. If the teacher is strict but fair and doesn't view me poorly, then I would like that teacher. But I'd avoid a strict teacher who sees me as inferior, and choose a kind teacher who is sincerely friendly.

It all boils down to their attitude and sincerity.

For me, a good relationship with my teacher is important. We don't need to be friends but both sides need to feel good during clases. I prefer structured lessons and a teacher who is leading the class, so I can concentrate on learning.

I think the important thing is for a teacher to find the right balance between supporting me and challenging me. If they are only supportive and don't challenge me, I won't progress as a learner. If they only challenge me with no support, I would give up. I think my ideal teacher is kind-hearted and one with whom I can have a free flowing conversation, but one who is strict about correcting my errors when we are working through specific exercises or points about grammar.
