So far, my absolute favourite comedy is "Summer Time Machine Blues".
The plot is kind of absurd (a sci-fi club that knows nothing about sci-fi, travels back in time to save the remote control of the clubhouse's airco), but it's AMAZING and really funny. There are also a lot of time travel references from other movies (like "Back to the Future").

Another movie I think is great is "Survive Style 5+". It's a pretty dark comedy but it's interesting how all the stories intertwine.... and it's stylish as heck!

Lucky Seven drama was aired last year and the Special episode was released this January. It is a drama of a detective agency. What's more? Three of my favorite actors and actress are there too!!! (Matsushima Nanako, Matsumoto Jun and Eita!)
I am waiting to see 鍵泥棒のメソッド also. Ryōko Hirosue is also a part of that movie, which means it is going to be a 'must see' movie!!!
By the way, have you seen the famous Gokusen drama series (main character is Nakama Yukie)? That's ia very cool drama also!

You just have to endure the first 10 or so minutes, after that it becomes better and then the beginning will make sense :)
I was able to make 8 guys ( studying electrical engineering, granted) - who have no interest in Japanese whatsoever- watch it and they thought it was so great they made "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH" their catch phrase for the rest of the school year XD
I also made them watch " Love Collage" ( 恋愛写真) which has some pretty funny moments too.
For comedy drama's, I think you can't go wrong with "Stand Up!!".
But I agree Samurai High School and HYD are quite enjoyable too:)
I personally couldn't get through Lucky Seven... Maybe because by then I'd seen sooooo many similar drama's, though.
Yes, Summer Time Machine Blues is an awesome movie! However, as Ivy Wen mentioned, it is pretty boring AT FIRST and is kind of slow moving throughout the movie. But, as you watch it makes you laugh a lot!!!

My sister once highly recommended "Summer Time Machine Blues" to me. I tried watching it for some ten minutes but found it kinda boring. So i gave it up.
