Self studying Japanese with "GENKI" Text books.

GENKI text books for self studying Japanese  ?

Do you like Genki books ?

Are they the best for self study ?

Did you make good progress using them ?

What are your opinions on these text books ?

Thanks for your comment. The Genki books for me were just what I was looking for. They give you progressive and structured way of learning. The Cd with audio recordings of all the text is extremely useful and the accompanying work book makes it perfect. The only downside to them for me anyway is the price but I think if you are serious about studying Japanese you can't go wrong. I had a few book before the Genki one's they were very detailed, but lack any sort of structure and I ended up not knowing were to start. That's where the Genki books shine in my opinion. So how are you getting on with them ?

It's been a while since I opened it up, but I had gotten through the first few lessons, though I'm working on relearning it. Being a native English speaker, it seems pretty easy and standard. It was very similar to my Spanish classes from years ago, the exception being that you can't use the same alphabet (the three syllabaries, of course). I'd like to hear from some people that's completed the Genki I and/or Genki II books though or some native speakers that have had some experience with the book and their opinion on it.
