Rat's Wedding
A couple of days ago, I read the news on the Internet regarding applying for bank jobs. According to the news, to work in a bank, a candidate had to pay 500 million VND (about $25,000) for some positions.
Then I told my brother this corruption. It didn’t astound us so much. Indeed, corruption appears everywhere, and this phenomenon began for a long time.
Circa 500 years ago, in Bac Ninh province, Vietnam, there was a famous village with woodcut paintings which were called Dong Ho paintings. One of the most well-known paintings named “rat’s wedding” (please see it below).
The painting described the wedding of the rats. It was a funny one because in life, a male rat that getting married would not be beyond hope.
On the other hand, the painter also indicated a corrupt society due to the fact that if the groom (the male rat) in the picture had wanted to receive the bride (the female rat), he would have bribed the big cat with fish and bird so that the cat allowed the male rat to meet his wife in the procession to receive the bride.
The painting inspired many poets to compose a lot of poems. And on the occasion of the lunar new year, it is usually hung on the wall of the Vietnamese.
Lastly, the rat’s wedding painting kept us from discussing about the story in the banks.
