Title: Some people believe that children should learn science in school. Others think that it is not necessary to include science in general education. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Give reasons for you answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Some people believe that science should be a compulsory subject, while others argue that it should be excluded from general education. I tend to agree with those who feel that children are supposed to study science. I will outline my reasons below.
Science as a subject has favorable influence on children. The fundamental reason lies in that the scientific knowledge is closely associated with people’s daily life. By that I mean, through studying science, children are more likely to give a reasonable explanation on some common phenomena, such as how the wind is formed. Therefore, there are larger possibilities for children to keep an inquiring mind on some phenomena happening around us, which could expand their outlook and discover the unknown world. Thus, science is essential in enabling children to understand more about the world.
On the other hand, not everyone is positive about the statement. Some people feel that studying science is a mere waste of time for children, mainly because it is not beneficial to children as much as mathematics and Chinese can be. For them, children are too young to have a real understanding of the abstract scientific knowledge. This might be justified to some extent. However, science is no longer obscure as long as it is linked with the real world. What is more important is that science is actually the cornerstone for children to understand the world.
Therefore, I strongly believe that science should be a compulsory subject, as it is in the best interest of children in terms of understanding the existent world and discovering the unknown world.
