Should One Expect a Reward When Doing a Good Deed?

There is widespread debate over the issue of whether or not one should expect a reward for doing a good deed. Some people actually favor the notion. Some people are in favor of the idea that one should get a reward after doing something "good." They think that because one has paid, one should then gain. Many others, however, differ in their opinions on the matter. They believe doing a good deed should be gratuitous. (or: should have no strings attached.)

As far as I am concerned, I firmly support the view that one shouldn't expect a reward when doing a good deed. We should do good because we want to help others, not because we want instead of wanting a reward. Plus, helping others brings rewards anyway. You gain both happiness and respect. And, if you get ever get into troble, people will be willing to give you a hand in reverse.

A good deed done with the expectation of a reward is not a good deed at all. It's just a service performed like any other like going to see a doctor, lawyer etc.
