Candles on a birthday cake. How many candles do you put on your birthday cake? I planed a surprise party for my husband's birthday. That day was the eve of his birthday but it was the day my husband and I had planed to meet my friends from Australia in Kyoto. I decided to take a chance to hold it. I exchanged e-mail with Australilan friends . I booked a good Itarian restaurant and odered an additional birthday cake for him. We usually put candles of the same numbers of ages on a cake and after making a wish brow out all of the candles. But my friend's husband has a unique tradition for it. In his family, they put only 3 candles no matter what your age is. And after making wish, they blow out 2 of them and leave one being lit. The three candles means past, present and future and put out 2candles which mean past and present. And it implies good luck if the last candle which means future can keep being lit long. What a good tradition it surly is!

But my friend's husband has a unique tradition for it. In his family, they put only 3 candles no matter what your age is. And after making wish, they blow out 2 of them and leave one being lit.
The three candles means past, present and future and he blew out the 2 candles which mean past and present.
And it implies good luck if the last candle, which means future, can keep staying lit long.
What a good tradition it surely is!
