IELTS writing task 2 answer (25) (what's better for children, stories or TV?) Question: "Some people think parents should read or tell stories to their children, others say it is not important and can be replaced by watching TV and movies instead. Discuss both views and give your opinion." Answer: Whether parents should use TV and films as substitutes for reading stories to their children is a controversial issue. Although I acknowledge the merits of television and films, I would argue that parents should spend more time telling stories to their children. It is true that using TV and films as learning tools and entertainment can broaden children’s horizons. They are able to obtain enormous information, for example, documentaries broadcast by some television stations about wildlife, scientific discoveries and customs of different places around the world. The wider access to knowledge provides the younger generation with opportunities to embrace different ideas and develop creativity. On the other hand, parents are not able to control what is shown on TV or silver screen. Children may be exposed to adult content if they are encourage to watch television or films especially without the company of their parents. They may see violent or sexual images and then imitate these acts and become aggressive. It is impossible for parents to pre-check all the details of a show before permitting their children to watch it. Therefore, in my opinion, reading to children is a better approach of early education. Not only can parents filter negative information while telling stories, they can also teach their children about vital things, such as bravery, sympathy, patience and so forth, through a good story. In addition, children can participate in storytelling activities and interact with their parents. In this way, family bond and affection can be deepened. In conclusion, I do agree that encouraging children to watch TV and films can be beneficial in some ways. However, I believe that telling stories to children has merits that television and films cannot provide, and it should not be replaced. (this is not my usual writing pattern, and i'm not sure whether it is acceptable. do you think i've answered all parts of the question? and do you think i argued logically?)

Whether parents should <em>replace </em>reading stories to their children <em>with television shows  and movies </em>is a controversial issue. Although I acknowledge the merits of television and<em> film</em>, I would argue that parents should <em>spend time reading</em> stories to their children.

It is true that <em>television and film can be educational,</em> and <em>may</em> broaden children’s horizons. <em>Children</em> are able to <em>gain</em> information. <em>For example: Documentaries</em> about wildlife, scientific discoveries, and customs of different places around the <em>world are broadcast by some stations</em>. <em>This</em> wider access to knowledge provides <em>children</em> with opportunities to embrace different ideas and develop <em>their </em>creativity.

On the other hand, parents <em>may</em> not <em>be </em>able to control what <em>their children view</em> on <em>television</em> or <em>the "Silver Screen."</em> Children may be exposed to adult content if they are encourage to watch television or films, especially without their parents' <em>supervision</em>. They may see violent or sexual images, and then imitate these acts. It is <em>also </em>impossible for parents to <em>review</em> all the details of a show <em>before their children watch it.</em>

Therefore; reading to children is a better approach <em>for</em> early education. Not only <em>may</em> parents filter <em>inappropriate</em> information while telling stories, they can also teach their children <em>important</em> things, such as bravery, sympathy, <em>patience</em> through a good story. In addition, children <em>may</em> participate in storytelling activities and interact with their parents. In this way, <em>the </em>family bond and affection <em>may</em> be deepened.

In conclusion, I do agree that encouraging children to watch <em>television</em> and films <em>may</em> be beneficial, <em>but I also believe</em> that <em>reading</em> stories to children has merits that television and film cannot provide, and  should not be replaced.

<em>Excellent work, silmarillionpwx. I few instances of inconsistant wording, e.g., "TV" and "television," yet with a second language, you are writing in an excellent style, with appropriate grammar, and your thoughts are organized properly. Very good!</em>
