The Secret Friend Game During December, Peruvian schoolers often play a game called "the secret friend".This game is a way of a fun present-giving and socializing, and it is conducted like this: In the first days of December, a raffle is hold to pair every member of the classroom so that every person is given a ticket with his/her friend's name which has to be kept secret. Having a "secret friend", everybody discreetly sends their friends presents and /or anonymous letters in a box which functions as a public post-box; to do so, students need to talk and spend time with their secret pals to find out their likes and dislikes and, of course, to choose appropriately the Christmas present for them. As a matter of fact, partners usually give each other funny gifts during the month such as funny underwear, deodorants, combs, etc. with a small note like: "for your tonight's date", "to use after P.E. class, you need it!", and some another joke people wants. Without a doubt, you could also receive nice presents such a bar of chocolate or another candy, fruit, poems, a letter giving clues to discover your secret pal's identity, a compliment letter or even a love one! Anyway, it is a lot of fun to keep your identity secret until the very last day by using pseudonyms, asking someone else to write your letters or to deliver your presents. ^_^ Finally, on the last day of class, everyone gets together and the teacher (or the class leader), who has the list of the secret pairs, calls students by turns to discover the real identity of their secret friends and to exchange the final "big" Christmas gift. At the end, everyone has a present and gets to know (even better) the person who is their secret friend. Afterwards,a small party is usually hold . This game is so popular in Lima, Perú that people usually continue to play it in the office or even at home! Certainly, this is a nice way not only to exchange gifts, but also to maintain friendship.

This is a wonderful tradition, and in the English speaking world we often call this game the "Secret Santa" game.
