Every family has a skeleton in the cupboard
Every family has a skeleton in the cupboard
This proverb means that every family has a guilty secret that it does its utmost to conceal from the world. I think, that it is true and most likely, the person dissembles, when they say that he or she has nothing to hide, because everyone certainly has at least one «skeleton in the cupboard». «Skeleton in the cupboard» is not just a secret it is usually an unpleasant memory. It is a memory that we want to forget and do not want to remember. I think that our memory is a cupboard full of old things. Sometimes we want to remember some pleasant minutes spent with close people. It is difficult to forget some things, which remind us of some problems and troubles. Usually we shared these memories with our relatives. It becomes our common «skeleton in the cupboard». After some time it becomes our family skeleton. Seeing on the some families you can think that they don't have not such dark secrets, but usually you are wrong.
[Good work. In the U.S., we talk about a "skeleton in the closet" - same thing. Not many native speakers know the word 'dissemble', even though it is a correct word. We might say 'they cover up' or 'they downplay'.]
