上阳白发人 唐 白居易 White Haired Dweller of the Palace Of the Supereme Sun
A white-hair woman in the ShangYang Palace
Dynasty Tang Bai Juyi
上阳人，红颜暗老白发新。
As a person living in the ShangYang palace，my face is getting old yet my white hairs are new.
Dweller of the Shang Yang Palace, rosyness seeping away from my face, my hairs newly white.
绿衣监使守宫门，一闭上阳多少春。
The eunuches in green oversee the gate of the palace，I have been locked in ShangYang for many springs .
Green robed eunuchs guard the place gates, locking away too many beauties
玄宗末岁初选入，入时十六今六十。
I was selected in the last year of 玄宗（Xuanzong），that time I was 16 now I am 60.
Selected in the last years of Emperor Hsuan Tsung, time I was sixteen but now sixty.
同时采择百余人，零落年深残此身。
There were totally about 100 people selected then，yet now only me is still alive( 残身shows that she was not healthy） .
Together we were hundred more, years deepened only this frailty remained.
忆昔吞悲别亲族，扶入车中不教哭。
Still remember that time I swallowed the sadness and said goodbye to relatives，they helped me to get onto the carriage and taught me to stop weeping.
I remembered the sorrows of parting from my loved one, carried into the carriage teaching me not to cry.
皆云入内便承恩，脸似芙蓉胸似玉。
They all said that I would be soon loved by the emperor because my face was like the hibiscus flower and my skin is like the white jade.

Met my Lord I have not, he fell prey to Lady Yang's far off glances.
妒令潜配上阳宫，一生遂向空房宿。
She sneakily arranged me to Shangyang Palace because she was jealous of my beauty. So I have to face the empty room for my whole life long.
In jealousy, flung into the far away Palace of Shang Yang to face an empty room of a life time.
