Had I known he would arrive late, I would have left more earlier. What is wrong with this sentence?
"More earlier" should be changed to "earlier."
"Had" should be changed to "If."

"Had I known" is fine. You need the had. If you want to use if, you still need the "had" as in "If I had known...".
