The Northern range of Henan province, like ZhengZhou and XinXiang City, was hit with a record-breaking rainstorm of more than 200mm in an hour, 630 mm a day on July 21st. Cars, buildings, roads and even a subway train were submerged in water .
Around 500 citizens were stuck in the underground train. They were forced to stand onto the bench, but the water still reached shoulders. Tired, cold and lacking in oxygen, some trapped persons even started to call and message their loved ones and friends with their last words. Thankfully, with the efforts of policemen and metro staff, they were successfully rescued. Yet, 12 people still lost their life in the disaster.
This morning, a 3 months-old baby, who has been buried under debris that collapsed due to the flood with his mother for over 24 hours were successfully rescued by Chinese army, as shown in the second picture below. Yet the lucky baby’s mother is still unaccounted for.
So far, there are 33 victims verified by authority, and lots remain unaccounted for. The government has deployed the army to rescue and evacuated trapped citizens immediately, and around 0.22M people were evacuated to safe places.
It’s pretty heart breaking, sending out prayers for timely help and for life to go back to normalcy quickly.
