Can we call girls "man" in daily conversation? In daily conversation, we always call our friends "man" but does it apply to the female? For instance, "Oh, man. Why don't you call me? You should have call me to come". Can I say the sentence above to girls? If it is not appropriate, then how can we call a girl or girls in a friendly way like guys do? lady?

"Man" is masculine, thus, you can't say it TO a girl, you can say it in front of a girl though. Like if you and your friend (who is a girl) walk into your house and you find that you have been robbed, you can say "man!!! I was stolen"... in this case is just a expression, but she is obviously not be the recipient of the sentence, she just happens to be there. If there is a group of girls you can call the group "guys", but you cannot call one single girl "guy". I hope I was of help. Cheers

You can say the sentence you said as you are not calling anyone man here. Oh man, is an exclamation not a form of address, however if you were to call a woman, man, then the answer is most definitely no! Roborto is right, generally women like to be addressed by their name, if you don't know it, use Miss or ma'am, don't call us things like, chick, bird etc either! oh also we dont call women 'lady' unless it actually part of an official title.

Oh man! (as an exclamation) is fine. Hey man! (calling them a man) is not. man is generally a male connotation (except where used to say man as in mankind or the human race)

In my social circles(I am an American male in his late 20's) I can call other guys man or dude or whatever I want if we are friends in casual conversation, but women expect me to know their name. If I were to call a female either "woman" or "girl" or "ladies" it would generally come off as either disrespectful or creepy... the polite way (if they are young) is "Miss" or if they are likely married / middle aged or older it would be "Ma'am". "Madam" also exists, but I think just about anyone other than much older and high-status people might get offended to be called that (it seems stuffy and old-fashioned). Just be sure not to call the young (18 year old) waitress "Ma'am" or "Madam" or you might get something in your food... However, calling an older woman "Miss" can be used as a compliment or for flattery if you aren't being foolish about it. In any case, unless you are female it is best to remember names!
