Quintessential refers to something that represents the perfect example of it's class, like the perfect wine, or something representing beauty. It could mean the most typical example of a type. Something worthy of copying.

(my own examples: no written or implicit warranty of good English syntax) -- The meaning and fascination of an epic tale, is in the fact that it relates to the quintessential nature of mankind, with its glares and shadows. -- the quintessential romantic music has been composed by Chopin and Liszt. -- After a long chain of studies and excruciating experiments that made more than a bunch of scientists to worry and sweat, we have some ground for stating that the quintessential meaning of life is life itself. -- the quintessential foundation of romantic love, and its strength is the (unconscious) planning for the next generation to be the best we could aim to (a foundation of A. Schopenhauer's philosophy). -- the quintessential reason for a comedian to be on stage is that he enjoys very much the opportunity to continuously remind his public that "life is there in order to be enjoyed". -- does humanity really need to know the quintessential nature of the global-warming effect before taking or striving to reach countermeasures against it ?
