If something is repeated too often, not original, trite, heard too much, you could say "that's old hat". A worn-out phrase that you hear a lot is like an old hat.

out-dated It really means it's been around for a long time and nobody is interested any more. Most of the stories about Shalit now are considered old hat.

old - not new, worn out, out of date, not in style hat - article of clothing worn on your head for either fashion or to keep warm hope this helped :)

It means out-of-date or something that is so familiar that no one is interested in it any more. "Your excuses are old hat!" (I've heard them all before) "Those singers are old hat" (They all sound the same as other singers, and we want to hear something different).
