Gift of red underwear Is it true that red underwear are sent as gifts to wish good luck??"The origins of this tradition start with the Ancient China and continued with the Roman Empire." http://www.curry.it/2012/12/red-underwear-for-new-years-eve/ "In a relatively recent tradition, couples give each gifts of red underwear (in photo above) — a color that wards off the malocchio (Evil Eye) and a symbol of love, prosperity, and fertility." http://www.thefastertimes.com/italianlessons/2010/12/29/celebrating-an-italian-new-year-2/ "In Italy, Spain and some parts of South America, there is a tradition of wearing new red underwear on New Year’s Eve. The tradition dates back to the Middle Ages, in a time when red garments were forbidden because the colour was associated with the devil and witchcraft. Like all taboos however, people went underground and wore red garments anyway! " http://www.fabiot.net/wear-red-this-new-years-eve/

Making such a gift to somebody who is not fully willing to accept it will cause quite a lot of trouble; so it will NOT anticipate good luck on either side! Better to give a book as a present, chancesd of good luck are better.

In China we have such culture to ware a red underware when you are at the age of 12/24/36/48/... we belive it would bring good luck. So it's a good thing to give such a gift in that satuation.
