Courage is something one posessess. It means that a person is brave and doesn't allow fear to stop them from taking a difficult action. If a person is courageous it means that he is very brave.
Encouragement is given by one person to another. A person encourages another person by giving them support when they are facing something difficult. For example, I could encourage you to take a difficult exam by telling you that you are an excellent student and should pass the exam easily.
