Tahar
whoud it be correct to say that I believe that it is more reasonable to try to understand all English accents but to speak with an English accent that you prefer. As for me I prefer The BBC English accent.

I think you are right, Tahar. There have been a couple of discussions today on this question. You might like to take a look at these: http://www.italki.com/discussion/85592 http://www.italki.com/discussion/85610

In my opnion, it's very useful to listen to lots of different accents as you learn, so that you have more experience understanding the different people you will meet. Listen to native speakers to learn how to pronounce things, of course. But personally I think communicating effectively and speaking well is more important than trying to sound British or American in particular.

I would like to hear what you think of this accent: Vita Sackville-West reads from her poem The Land: http://youtu.be/AjXvkRhoXXs

This is very interesting. Do you think the BBC has kept its "received pronunciation" policy or do you think it has long been very consciously discontinued?

As someone who mostly pronounces English as "BBC English", I would concur! :) Thus, I would say I speak Standard English with a BBC English-like accent. However, I'm confused as to what your question actually is?
