How do you spell "omma" in arabic ? Hello, my grandmother is Algerian, she speaks only arabic but doesn't know how to read or write. Everyone in the family calls her "Omma" which means "mother" in her dialect (she is from Sidi Okba nearby Biskra in Algeria). My question is : How do you spell "Omma" (mother) in arabic ? Thank you for your help !

En Arabe standard on dit أُمّ (omm) = une mère et جَدَّة = une grand-mère Pour le reste (comme le mot Omma) ça fait partie du dialecte, et ce mot "Omma" s'écrit أُمَّ ou أُمَّة puisque le ة dans le nom féminin ne se prononce pas. J’espère que cela t'a aidée.

Omm = أم ( Mother ) for calling mother, we may call Umma or Ummi ( أماه أمي ) Ab = أب ( Father ) Jad = جد ( Grand father ) Jaddah = جدة ( Grand mother )

I think the best way without a doubt to learn Arabic is "Learning standad Arabic" the rest of dialects will come naturally.

How to spell it? Well, you don't. Dialects in arabic aren't written, so there is no standard way to spell them. When writing, try to stick to standard Arabic. BTW, are you sure "omma" means mother (in that dialect)? I believe it means grandmother.
