In Spain. "Empresa" is the normal word. I think we only say "Compañía" for big companies and I only can hear this word on TV, radio.. etc. We don't use "compañía" normally.

you can use both of them... althought a "Compañía" sounds as a biggest company.

It´s better if you use in this case "compañía". A empresa can be small, medium o big. So compañía is used in Spanish for a big organization. Regards.

No hidden meaning, you can use both of them depending on the context of its use. In formal writing for example, some people feel more comfortable using "compañía" but others prefer "empresa". "Empresa" is generally more accepted. Regards.

Compañia = la firma, empresa = la actividad. more or less. if you speak about the people and its social area is "la compañia", but if you talk about the activity, organization, methodology, marketing and all these things is " Empresa". normally in newspapers, or media is "noticias empresariales". if internal comunication: "Noticias de la compañia/la empresa, not much difference. Are you studying spanish for bussiness or translating or alike?
