There are two related words here.
1. 다 하다 = do all/everything. Be done/finished with something.
2. 다하다 = 1. exhaust or fulfill (possible means, responsibilities, duties), 2. reach the end.
(The two are closely related, but nevertheless different expressions when used in written form)
다 하다(1) is very common in everyday situations. 다 is one of the most commonly used adverbs.
- 숙제 다 했어? = Have you finished your homework?
- 이걸로 오늘 일은 다 했다 = This finishes today's work.
- 밥 다 먹었어? = Are you done eating.
다하다(2) is a bit less common, but still widely used. It can also have a somewhat literally feel, as in your example.
- 맡은 일에 최선을 다하다. 사회적 역할을 다하다 (아낌없이 바치다).
- 그 사람은 자기 고향에서 수명을 다했다 (죽었다). 건전지가 수명을 다했다 (못 쓰게 됐다).
