Broadly, the answers so far consist of two groups of words related by meaning:: Emotionally unmanly: mushy, wet, soppy, sappy, sickly. Unsophisticated: tacky, kitsch, cheesy. Words in the latter group approximate to cursi, though macho boys would themselves probably not recognise any distinction between the two.

I'd use the word "sappy" to describe a sickly sweet romantic movie here in the States.

A 'chick flick' is a movie that primarily appeals to women or is at least aimed at that audience. ‘Rom Coms’ or Romantic Comedies also sit in this genre but are enjoyed by all! Cheesy, corny, soppy, wet and mushy could be used as adjectives to describe these types of movies.

I would not normally use cheesy, corny or kitsch as synonyms for romantic. They could be both, but don't have the same general idea. Perhaps 'soppy'? I'm not sure how general that is across the different variants of English, but is definitely a word I would use.
