Unlike 'schedule', which has one spelling and two pronunciations, the word 'sceptical' has two spellings but only one pronunciation! Whether you use the British spelling 'sceptical' or the US spelling 'skeptical', the pronunciation is always with a 'sk' sound. Logic? There ain't none :) I can't think of another English word beginning with 'sce' where the pronunciation is 'sk': it usually is just 's' (as in 'scene', 'scent' and so on). Sorry. You've just got to learn the exceptions and remember them. PS The question should be this: "How is 'sceptical' pronounced?". It's a present simple passive construction: Active: "How do you pronounce 'sceptical'?" ---> Passive: "How is 'sceptical' pronounced? English spelling and pronunciation might be illogical, but grammar structures are pretty straightforward.

Just to let you know, you pronounce the first sound of "scene", "scent", "scepter", etc. as [s] , not [sk] .

It begins with the sound [sk] , which is the same as the first sound of "square", "scramble", "screen", etc.
