When you describe motion in Russain, you need to know two verbs.
In Russain, there are two groups of verbs of motion.
One, a unidirectional verb of motion, describes motion in one direction and the other, a multidirectional verb of motion, describes motion in more that one direction.
ИДТИ ( unidirectional motion-----> ) -1) moving in one direction, being on your way with a final destination point in mind, being headed someplace.------ Я иду на пляж.= I am going to the beach. ( I am on my way to the beach)
2) Expressing a settled plan for the future. - сегодня вечером я иду на пляж.
ХОДИТЬ ( multidirectional motion /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/)- 1)moving to your destination and back. Я вчера ходил на пляж.= I went to the beach yesterday ( I visited that place and now I am back)
2) moving in multiple directions without a certain destination in mind, general motion with no specific goals Я хожу по пляжу и ищу хорошее место- I walk around the beach and look for a good place.
3) ability to walk - Наш ребёнок маленький. он ещё не ходит. = Our child is small. He can't walk
This concept is important to understand, as the same kind of distinction is made for all the verbs of motion
