Before answering your question, I’d like to say that I feel sorry you are looking for that kinds of words before the trip. As you may know, the country, Korea, is a single race country. Therefore, it is not familiar for Koreans to deal with issues related with racial discrimination. I don’t live in Korea at the moment and I can feel that Korean just started learning about this issue and looking around the world.
So, I'd like to say that if you experience bad things from Korea, just ignore them and take them as ignorant or uneducated people.
Regardless of it, I hope you can experience Korean “정” from the trip.
You can think “정 (Jeong) “ is like Korena Love. The reason why I put Korean for the word is saying just Love is not enough to express what that means :)
Anyway A trip is a trip. Be positive and enjoy :)
Back to the main topic, I would classify two kinds of words that can be (1)always bad and (2)bad depending on the intonation.
(1)Always bad, even used to Korean ppl too
깜둥이 / 껌둥이
시커머스
(2) depending on the intonation.
흑인
흑형/ 흑누나
아프리카 사람
검은 사람
All are based on Korean standards, so please do not take it seriously.
Korean has valued Bright skin tone from the old dynasty so
In the current generation, young people make fun of people who have dark skin.
This can be one of the reasons why korean people care about their skin seriously.
Speaking of (2), based on the standard of African-Americans, they are also bad.
But this is just my opinion but I think Korean people don’t really take classifying races by colours as seriously as African-Americans.
As a reference, I suggest you watch the music video, Yellow by Lim Kim.
From the video, you could feel how she says (i’m yellow so what?)
