Expressions for a headache Could you please give me some commonly used expressions for the symptom of headache? And this one may be ridiculous, but I'd like to hear your opinion about it. If I say "I feel like I've worn a stocking over my head for one hour" in casual conversation, will I be understood? I mean, a whacky one for "I have a headache"... What do you think?@Amanda: Thank you. :) I've just learned also "I have a racking headache" @maryiane: Thank you for your answer! :) @Mark: Yes, some comments seems closer to one's idiolect. But still, I like them. :) I consider that one 'whacky' as well, just wondered if I would be understood. Thank you for your answer! @roi g: Don't confuse me with broken English. @Peachey: I've forgotten bank robbers wearing a stocking in movies. :) I just wondered if I would be understood. That's a nice one. :D Thank you! @Mark: 아 웃겨 ㅎㅎㅎ @Matthew Armstrong: Thanks for adjusting that. :) The lines you've given helped a lot. I find "Someone turn out the lights" very useful... Thanks again!

I'd understand you, but maybe add 'really tight' before stocking to emphasise the pain and change 'one' to 'an' to make it sound more natural. So, I feel like I've worn a really tight stocking over my head for an hour Simple ones are My head is about to explode. Arghh. Someone turn out the lights. (particularly good for hangover headaches) My head feels like it's in a vice. Generally something related to squeezing or exploding is good. (The following ones, as Mark points out, are not common but they are good if you want to go for something a bit wacky like you mention later on.) For something with a bit more impact try something like I feel like an ant is making a nest inside my head. I feel like I've got my head stuck between a sumo wrestler and a sharp rock. I feel like my head's been infested by aliens and is about to explode. My head feels like dynamite and the fuse is about to end. My head feels like it's been through a car crusher. or It feels like somebody is using my head for origami, but it doesn't bend that way. Ouch. and I'm sure there are many more. Hope that helps.

Hi Hailey^^ I can understand how Matthew's comments are expressions for headaches, but I wouldn't say they are common. Although, common expressions he mentioned are: My head is about to explode. My head feels like it's in a vice. +1 Amanda +1 maryjane - you can also use throbbing ~ pounding. But I reckon we describe a headache more by severity than symptoms. A couple from me to add to your list: I've got a massive headache. I've got a pretty bad headache. I can understand your stocking scenario, but I would class that more as 'artistic' than common. :P 몸 조심해~~
