iPod, iPhone, italki ..... What does "i" mean? "i" and Chinese character "爱" have the same pronunciation. "爱" means like or love in Chinese. Does the "i" has the same meaning?

Apple is not the only company to use the "i" prefix. There are thousads of websites and products that use is. I personally have always thought of the "i" as representing "internet". It gives a more techy / online feel to your product or service. Of course, there are some products and websites that use "i" as the pronoun "I", making a sentence. Example: "iFly.com" or "iFish" imply "I Fly." and "I Fish."

it doesn't really mean anything. It's just a branding exercise by the Apple computer company. There are non-Apple people using it too, but they are just using the brand recognition built by Apple to promote their own product.

My classmate from Shanghai told me FYI , I of Ipod means the initial of "Internet" A certain company here uses "Network-walkman" for the similar electric appliances. But I am using Iphone. I often uses Icomic on Iphone . it's useful :)))) http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_was_the_iPod_named_after "named after" is useful to look for these matters in Internet. 再見! :)))

I think it's a gimmick playing on how the items are compact and personal, or in other words, just for me. I = me = 我. Like another way of branding the concept of PC (personal computer).

http://www.iphonejd.com/iphone_jd/2009/01/the-i-in-iphone.html italki is unrelated. I'd love to see an explanation of italki from the staff. There was a question on it a while ago.
